Technology-focused mentorship at Aspire pushes learners to think bigger, beyond tools and trends, toward understanding how innovation reshapes opportunity itself. Rajesh Dhuddu, a globally recognized blockchain leader and technology strategist from India, recently held a Masterclass for Aspire learners where he broke down complex tech systems to help emerging leaders understand them as areas of opportunity.
The Road to Become a Techpreneur Masterclass taught participants to look beyond the buzz of cryptocurrency and digital disruption and dive deeper into the underlying architecture of innovation: how it functions, where it truly generates value, and how it can be harnessed to drive lasting, meaningful change.
Having witnessed firsthand how access to technology and the right guidance can transform a young person’s trajectory, Dhuddu is committed to ensuring underserved youth understand not only the promise of emerging technologies, but their power to open doors.
Pivoting to a New Path
Raised and educated in Hyderabad, India, Dhuddu grew up in a city in transition. Hyderabad was expanding, but limited job opportunities and modest salaries meant most middle-class families like his own still had to live frugal lifestyles.
Dhuddu chose to pursue a career as a doctor due to his interest in the sciences and desire for upward mobility. He faced intense competition within his cohort, and though he performed exceptionally well on the entrance exam for medical school, Dhuddu was unable to secure one of the limited seats available.
“There are only a limited number of seats in India,” he said. “In spite of getting a pretty good rank in the top thousand, I still couldn’t get a seat in medicine, so I had to switch my field of study from sciences to commerce.”
What was initially perceived as a setback became a pivot point. Dhuddu transitioned into commerce, earning a Bachelor’s in Business Administration followed by a Master’s in Finance Management. This new path became the foundation for a career navigating complexity at the intersection of business and technology.
Building Technical Capacity
Dhuddu’s early professional roles required him to move far beyond traditional business strategy.
In his first major assignment in the power generation sector, he was tasked with building a comprehensive business plan for a 330-megawatt coal-fired power plant. The role demanded knowledge of the plant’s operational mechanics — an area typically reserved for engineers.
“I had to venture into the core technical aspects, even though I don’t have an engineering background,” he said.
Dhuddu dedicated himself to understanding how the system functioned from the inside out in order to create an effective plan. He carried that same tenacity into his next chapter in telecommunications, where he helped set up large-scale telco networks across India and later led product management initiatives.
Telecommunications presented a different layer of technical rigor, and as head of product management, Dhuddu was responsible for rolling out products and services at scale. He quickly realized that innovation required technical fluency.
“Without understanding how a core telco works, you cannot be innovative in terms of products,” he explained.
These experiences shaped Dhuddu’s professional philosophy. By dissecting complex systems in both power generation and telecom, he developed a disciplined framework for unraveling technology, identifying where systems allowed flexibility, where they were rigid, and where innovation could be meaningfully introduced.
Opportunities in Blockchain Technology
Years later, while running a fintech company for a serial entrepreneur, Dhuddu was responsible for selling payment processing services to senior bankers across India. Confident in his understanding of financial systems, he entered conversations prepared to present established solutions. Instead, he encountered resistance.
“I had a lot of pushback from those senior leaders. It’s like, you know, preaching to the choir, ‘you’re just a kid in the industry, don’t come and tell us things that we already know. Why don’t you tell us something that we do not know?’”
One senior banker pointed him toward a rising topic at the time. He challenged Dhuddu to explain how Bitcoin worked on a deeper level and report back once he could.
“That challenge made me move into blockchain [and] understand the core aspects of technology — the challenge to unravel technology,” he said.
When Dhuddu returned to the banker, he delivered his explanation with clarity, depth, and strategic insight, having performed so well that the banker referred to him as a blockchain guru.
That moment proved catalytic. Industry recognition soon followed as he accelerated through his career — founding the Blockchain and Metaverse Practices at Tech Mahindra, leading large-scale initiatives to curb spam calls and text messages across India, positioning enterprises as global leaders in blockchain innovation, and reimagining customer experience and business models through emerging technologies.
His impact earned international acclaim: Dhuddu was featured in Forbes for three consecutive years as an inspiring blockchain leader and was recognized among the world’s top blockchain professionals.
The same mindset he developed while studying power plants and telecom networks had now positioned him at the forefront of blockchain innovation.
Identifying Gaps as Opportunities
Dhuddu’s journey from humble beginnings to global success showed him the true potential of technology. He notes that the tech boom at the turn of the century had a significant impact — particularly in India.
“We kind of internalized technology, especially [when] the challenge of Y2K happened,” he said. “Computers were designed to work only up to the year 2000, and once the date switched over to 2000, they weren’t sure if the computers would work. So it kind of created a cottage industry out of India, where a lot of tech people started solving the global problem.”
Over the years, the world witnessed rapid technological transformation, with each breakthrough opening the door for thousands of entrepreneurs like Dhuddu to identify areas of need and seize new opportunities, achieving remarkable success.
When Dhuddu was approached by the Country Director for Aspire’s India Foundry and asked to speak with our learners, he knew imparting knowledge about the opportunities within the technology space would be extremely valuable — especially to underserved learners.
“I’ve personally seen how technology has changed the lifestyle of a person for good,” he said. “I myself have been witness to the transformative journey of technology, not only from a tech perspective, but overall quality of life perspective, so I thought it would be a good topic to talk about.”
Dhuddu’s Masterclass focused on spotting business opportunities — areas of need created as a result of emerging tech — and addressing these needs with entrepreneurial solutions. With more than 2,500 learners in attendance from across the globe, Dhuddu’s classroom represented a truly global cross-section — one he not only imparted knowledge on, but gained perspective from.
I’ve personally seen how technology has changed the lifestyle of a person for good.
“One thing was very evident,” he said. “No matter what their cultural backgrounds, color, gender, ethnicity, economic situations, education are, they all were superpowered with one aspiration: to learn significantly and become successful with their earnest endeavours.”
This experience also reinforced his belief in the power of shared stories and cross-cultural dialogue.
“[Learners] start exchanging stories and realize that the struggles are the same everywhere. You can’t just wish that there are no more struggles in life. That’s not gonna happen, but the amount of positive outlook that you bring to the table is what matters,” he said. “By listening to those stories, I think these kids can learn from each other. They also get an opportunity to appreciate each other’s cultures, [and with] that, you make the world a lot more accommodating space.”
In an era where digital platforms often amplify division, Dhuddu sees Aspire as a space that cultivates empathy, appreciation, and mutual respect.
Technology for Impact
Looking ahead, Dhuddu remains focused on contribution and impact. Despite technological progress, he recognizes that inequities persist, particularly for rural and underserved communities that still lack access to technology and education.
Dhuddu was invited as the Chief Guest to attend Aspire’s India Foundry graduation ceremony in Hyderabad, where he awarded certificates to Aspire graduates. There, he learned more about the initiatives led by the program’s learners — initiatives operating at the intersection of innovation and social impact — and Dhuddu’s commitment deepened.
“My focus would be how to leverage technology so that you can reach out to more and more people,” he said.
Whether through leadership, mentorship, or advocacy, Dhuddu’s goal remains consistent: to help expand opportunity through technology.
