The Technology Intern will report directly to the Technology Officer and deliver value to this startup organization in two or more of the following areas:

  • REST API Programming in Python
  • Learning Management System Demo / Evaluation
  • Community Discussion Platform Demo / Evaluation
  • Apple (Macintosh, iPad, iPhone ) Computer Support
  • Google Workspace for Non-Profits Setup and Support
  • Dataiku DSS Setup and Operations
  • Cloud System Setup and Administration
  • Technical Writing / Project Assistant
  • Customer Relationship Management (CRM) System Management

Interns are not expected to have existing skills in all of these areas. However, the successful intern candidate will be able to show existing professional-level skills in at least two of these areas, and a willingness to learn with a fast-growing organization. 


The Technology Intern will collaborate with the Technology Officer and Team Members across the Aspire Institute to implement and improve the technology platform that supports the Aspire Leaders Program. Depending on the skill you bring to the internship role, you will start delivering value in two of these areas:

  • REST API Programming in Python
    • Responsibilities:
      • Write Production-ready Python code to automate passing data between REST APIs to automated business processes. We currently use APIs from Full Fabric, Google, edX, MailChimp, SHL, and others.
    • Qualifications:
      • Experience producing production-ready code with Python libraries like requests.
      • Experience setting up robust well documented workflows that automate business processes between APIs created by two different parties.
      • Experience with source control like git
      • Experience using postman or VS Code to interrogate API
  • Learning Management System Demo / Evaluation
    • Responsibilities:
      • Actively participate in setting up of demo in-house Learning Management Systems
      • Document strengths and weaknesses of various systems to meet Aspire Program Goals and Initiatives.
    • Qualifications:
      • Experience setting up Open Source LMS systems like Open edX, Moodle, or others.
      • Strong Linux System Admin Skills
      • As a Plus your Experience experience of setting up LMS systems in a cloud environment like AWS, Google, or Azure.
  • Discussion Platform System Demo / Evaluations
    • Responsibilities:
      • Actively participate in setting up of demo in-house Community Discussion Platform
      • Document strengths and weaknesses of various systems to meet Aspire Program Goals and Initiatives.
    • Qualifications:
      • Experience in Setup and management of Community / Discussion Platforms like Discourse, NodeBB, and Vanilla Forums.
      • Strong Linux System Admin Skills
      • Added plus if you have experienced scaling these platforms to 10s of thousands of users and making sure that the system runs 7x24x360 in the cloud.
  • Apple (Macintosh, iPad, iPhone ) Computer Support
    • Responsibilities:
      • Provide staff with Apple Computer Hardware and Software support. (Mac, iPhone, iPad)
      • Create and maintain a hardware & software inventory.
      • Audit Software Licence Use
      • Setup laptops for staff
    • Qualifications:
      • Prior experience in a Desktop Technology Support Role
      • Deep familiarity with Apple computers.
    • Requirements:
      • In this role, you must be on-site in Aspires’s Cambridge offices for at least 1/2 day on two of the following days each week (Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday)
  • Google Workspace for Non-Profit Support
    • Responsibilities:
      • Provide System Administration and setup support of Google Workspace for Non-Profits in alignment with current organization technology direction
      • Google Workspace Troubleshooting
      • Training for staff on Google Workspace Tools
    • Qualifications:
      • Strongly prefer experience in the setup and support of multiple Google Workspace environments for different organizations.
  • Dataiku DSS Setup and Operations
    • Responsibilities:
      • Assist with the setup and operations of a new Dataiku DSS environment
      • Build DSS Projects to Automate Business Processes using Scenarios and REST APIs 
    • Qualifications:
      • Experience with the Dataiku DSS Platform.
      • Ability to setup PostgreSQL and write SQL
      • Well-developed Linux Sys Admin Skills.
      • Strongly preferred candidates who have completed the Dataiku Academy Core Designer Certificate and one of the following ML Practitioner, Advanced Designer, or Developer Certificates.
  • Cloud Setup and Administration
    • Responsibilities:
      • Participate in the Setup of Dataiku DSS on one of the Major Cloud Providers’ environments.
      • Document Configuration
      • Train staff to manage the environment
      • Help Monitor and control the daily AWS spend
    • Qualifications:
      • Experience setting up Docker, and Kubernetes in a cloud environment (for example AWS EKS),  Ability to scale processes to support thousands of users.
      • AWS training & Experience preferred
  • Technical Writing / Project Assistant
    • Responsibilities
      • Assist the Technology Office in creating technical documents related to
        • RFI, RFP, and Other Corospondance related to the third generation program delivery platform for Aspire Institute.  The new platform will be a cross between Learning Management System and a Community Platform.
        • Document Current Operations Procedures
        • Document Current Technology Policies
      • Participate in the Project Management of the RFI / RFP process for the third generation program delivery platform for Aspire Institute
    • Qualifications:
      • Excellence in Technical Communications. (Please be ready to share a portfolio of your work.)
      • Some experience in large scale procurement of third party technology would be helpful
      • Passion for keeping it simple
      • Ability to create graphics as part of technical documentation
      • Prefer knowledge of Agile and Scrum methodologies
  • CRM System Administration.
    • Responsibilities
      • Manage Data in Aspire Institutes CRM System Full Fabric
      • Export and Import data to other SaaS Platforms in use by Aspire Institute including Google, SHL, EDx, Zoom.us
      • Data Hygena standards and Deduplication
    • Qualifications
      • Data Import and Exporting.  .CSV Files, MS Excel or other spreadsheet tools
      • Preferred familiarity with tools to automate the import and extraction of data from one platform to another. These might include programing scripts in Python, using tools like Zapier.

Other Requirements

In this startup environment, all staff persons are expected to take on responsibilities outside of the original scope of their job descriptions and adapt quickly to changing needs. As such, Interns will also be asked to chip in in areas outside their primary responsibilities.

Other Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from an undergraduate or graduate program. 
  • Interest and experience in non-profit organizations, higher education, or related field preferred.
  • A commitment to the mission of Aspire Institute.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team.
  • Excellent interpersonal, listening, written, and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced, changing, entrepreneurial environment.

Physical Requirements and Working Environment:

  • The majority of Aspire Institute Staff work in a hybrid office environment. Most staff work from home on Mondays and Fridays and in the office in Cambridge, MA Tuesdays-Thursdays.
  • When working remotely staff need consistent access to a quiet workspace with sufficient reliable internet access to complete the work of the job. (At this time Aspire does not provide an internet connection allowance.)
  • All Intern roles are eligible for remote work without the need to be present in the Cambridge, MA offices unless otherwise indicated above.


This is a Part-time Job. The specific number of hours are negotiable, starting as soon as available.

You must be authorized to work in the United States. (No Sponsorship or Visa Support available)


This is a paid internship. Pay commensurate with experience.
