The compulsory EdX course in stage 2 that earns Aspire Leaders Program 2022 Cycle One participants a fully-funded HarvardX certificate is Exercising Leadership: Foundational Principles taught by Harvard professor Ronald Heifetz.

“If you only look at all that’s left undone, you’re more at risk of burning out. Give yourself pleasure and heart and rejoice in the fruits of your labor. That’s one of my key takeaways from this course.” – Tawina Winnie Chaposa, Cycle One Participant, Ghana

Heifetz hopes to instill a passion and eye for using leadership to meet the complex challenges of today; equipping students with the foundational principles to navigate their own realities. Such topics include identifying the key perspectives of stakeholders, building and renewing trusting relationships, and approaching conflict.

Professor Heifetz is trained as a psychiatrist with a degree from Harvard Medical School. He served as the founding director of Harvard’s Center for Public Leadership and his classes at the Kennedy School, including Exercising Leadership: The Politics of Change, remain very popular. “With tears in my eyes, I can say that the course is not only an incredible source of external learning, it also works as a mirror and allows us to dive into a deep journey within ourselves, highlighting our fears, failures, constraints, our ability to forgive, love and trust.” Renata Barreto, Cycle One Participant, Argentina

In 2007, Heifetz was named the King Hussein bin Talal Senior Lecturer in Public Leadership, largely for his pioneering role in establishing leadership as an area of study and education in the United States and at Harvard. His research addresses two main challenges: developing a conceptual foundation for the analysis and practice of leadership; and developing transformative methods for leadership education, training, and consultation.

We offer this course by Ron Heifetz as a wonderful addition to the Aspire Leaders Program students’ leadership development journey.
